Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – September 5–10, 2025
Regenerate Africa is set to participate in the Africa Climate Summit (ACS 2025), taking place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 5th to 10th September 2025. The Summit will bring together African Heads of State and Government, policymakers, civil society leaders, private sector actors, researchers, and development partners to chart a united response to the continent’s climate challenges.
As the effects of climate change continue to intensify, women, young people, and vulnerable communities remain at the frontlines of its impacts yet their health needs and rights are often overlooked in climate policies. Building on our extensive track record in global climate dialogues, Regenerate Africa will use the ACS platform to advance gender justice, health equity, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) as essential pillars of climate resilience.
At ACS 2025, Regenerate Africa will engage in high-level sessions and targeted side events, including:
🔹 Population, Health, and Environment (PHE) Side Event
Regenerate Africa will contribute as a speaker in a side event dedicated to Population, Health, and Environment (PHE). This session will provide a platform to showcase RA’s research and advocacy on the interlinkages between gender, SRHR, health, and climate change.
🔹 Technical Workshop on the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan
We will participate in the technical workshop on developing activities under the UNFCCC Gender Action Plan. In this space, we will advocate strongly for the integration and retention of language on SRHR, gender-based violence, and unpaid care work ensuring that gender considerations remain central to climate action.
Through these engagements, Regenerate Africa will amplify African voices and experiences, and work alongside key partners to influence outcomes that directly contribute to preparations for COP30.
The climate crisis is not gender-neutral. Across Africa, women and girls are disproportionately impacted by extreme weather events, food insecurity, and health burdens, while also carrying the weight of unpaid care and domestic responsibilities. Addressing these realities requires climate solutions that are inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the health and rights of all people.
By placing gender, SRHR, and health at the heart of Africa’s climate agenda, Regenerate Africa seeks to catalyze policies and actions that not only respond to the crisis but also strengthen resilience, dignity, and justice for communities most affected.
In addition to active participation in dialogues and workshops, Regenerate Africa will distribute factsheets on the nexus of gender, SRHR, health, and climate change. These materials will support evidence-based advocacy and provide decision-makers with practical recommendations for transformative climate action.
