As the world gears up for this year's COP28 global climate conference, this year hosted in Dubai, Regenerate Africa is excited to announce that we will be presenting on the interlinkages between Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and climate change at a side event during COP28 on December 3rd, from 15:00 - 16:30pm local time at the Uganda Pavilion. We are excited that our very own program leader Niona Nakuya and Executive Director Charles Kabiswa will represent Regenerate Africa. The impact of climate change and climate-related emergencies affect all aspects of human life and health, with significant, but often neglected, negative consequences on the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of women and girls. SRHR including family planning has been largely left out of climate change adaptation strategies, negotiations and action. Realizing SRHR is crucial to achieving gender equality, health, well-being and for overcoming marginalization and it must also, therefore, be a central component of gender-responsive adaptation to climate change. Regenerate Africa implements a Volunteer and internship Programme with an objective of motivating and enabling people from diverse segments of society and industry to further apply and develop their specialized skills, time and the talents while contributing to institutional development. Ms. Denise Najuuko is an intern at Regenerate Africa, and she is one of the current beneficiaries of this Volunteer and Internship Programme. She has been hosted at Regenerate Africa for a period of 2 months since October 2023. Denise is a young professional currently pursuing her studies in a Bachelor of Science with a major in Environmental Science at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax. Her academic growth interests and ambitions include water and soil health as well as climate adaptations. The overall objective of her internship placement at Regenerate Africa is “to enhance her knowledge and skills for application of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) principles, concepts & practices in projects design and implementation.” The specific objectives include: Participate in ESG engagements (both organized by Regenerate Africa & Partners) for personal awareness, skills and knowledge building.
