Natural resource governance refers to the norms, institutions, and processes that determine how power and responsibilities over natural resources are exercised, how decisions are taken, and how people – including women, men, youth, indigenous peoples, and local communities – participate in the management of and benefits from natural resources. Regenerate Africa prioritizes social justice, equity, transparency, inclusion, rights-based, and socially inclusive approaches to conservation for effective natural resource management and its contribution to human wellbeing and biodiversity.Indigenous peoples hold and manage a significant part of Uganda and Africa’s most biodiverse regions and play a vital role in conserving lands, forests, water and resources. The close relationship of indigenous peoples to their environments means that they are often first and most severely affected by the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation. RA advocates and promotes gender equality, including through women’s empowerment and valuing the unique knowledge, roles, and capacities of all people, ineffective, efficient, equitable, and sustainable environmental solutions.
